Hi!
I'm a Canadian Civil Engineering student/wannabe skiff sailor who's been
on the list for six months now. My original intention was to by a boat
(get out of the laser), but this has proven unrealistic. Plus, there
just isn't an active fleet here in Vancouver.
I'm going on a university exchange to Australia starting in Jan. 2000,
and high on my list of priorities is to sail. I won't be taking very
many courses, so I hope to find a boat, a partner, and get a year of
skiff experience under my belt.
I'm currently leaning towards the University of Western Autralia. A
little out of the action, it has the advantage of being right beside the
Yacht Club, and of course the 'Freenmantle Doctor.' But I could also go
to Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaine or Brisbane. I'll be staying a year.
I guess what I'm looking for is some objective (or biased) opinions on
where to go in Autralia, from a sailing (both general and skiff
specific), general fun and (lastly) academic perspective. Any advice
would be appreciated.
