Hiya penultimate sailors,
This is just an update on penultimate plans for the near
future. The plan is to race at 14 opens alongside the big
rigs as we have been doing up until now. I plan to send out
mails to the list fairly regularly to let people know about
which events penultimate boats are intending to attend. So
if anyone is planning to go to 14 opens please let me know
so I can pass on the info.
Queen Mary short series:
This has been quite succesful providing a good chance for
penultimates to get together and race each other. It runs
every other Sunday (next event 7th March) until the middle
of April. Two races back to back are run starting at 10.35.
Entry is #163#40 for the whole series plus boat parking or #163#15
per days sailing. For those of you who haven't been there
yet Queen Mary is a great place for inland 14ing.
Hamble Warming Pan:
Currently 5 penultimate rules boats are intending to go to
this event on the 20-21st March. Hamble River Sailing Club
have agreed to present a prize for the first penultimate
rules boat if the turnout is good. It would be great to see
some more penultimate boats out there.
Europeans Warnemunde:
Currently 2-3 penultimate boats are intending to travel to
this event at the beginning of July. Any other penultimates
interested in travelling with us would be more than
welcome.
Training:
Julian Pearson, a veteran 14er with an impressive racing
record is again running 14 training sessions this year. One
is provisionally planned at Oxford for the first weekend in
May. If you're interested please contact Julian on 07771
597 317.
A used gear list for penultimates has been set up and
should be available on the web site and will also be sent
out to the 14 used gear list published every month via the
mailing list.
A penultimate handicap for mixed fleet racing has been
determined from the RYA as 898. It is felt that it is best
to keep this handicap as an informal one to avoid confusion
with the big rig handicap. We also need to come up with
ideas for a distinctive sail marking to distinguish the
penultimates from big rig boats. One possibility is a green
"P" although some people feel this is not cool enough. Any
ideas please let me know.
Well I think that's about it for now. If you have any
queries or want further info on any of the above events
please contact me (0117 9742671 home/0117 9287557 work).
