Where do you want to be in 10 years? At 12 ft? We still want to be
able to fit 14s into containers, right? Right now you can fit up
to 9. Can you do that at 7ft, 8ft...? Increasing the width will let you go

What's the difference? Is the rudder gantry a rudder gantry or a rack
extension. It's a technical question of which there are too many in the
current rules already. I can see how crews with light skippers want the
skipper further aft but don't care about having him far out. With heavy
skipper and light crew your gantry might need to come clear out to the
racks.

Many a 14 are build or rebuild at home. I think this is good for the class
and I'd hate to see the weight drop to a point where it is a significant
advantage to have a professional builder use prepreg materials in a
$100.000 mold to build yet 30 pounds under weight and add the lead to the
middle.
Dropping the min weight will increase cost, fragility and keep the home
builder in the back row. Is that really worth dropping 20 pounds?
