Hi Grant, Hi 14ers

Re: Grant's response to the development issue:

Nice take on the development thing.

Here is my take on the current suggestions.

1. Rotating rig: only useful if you are underpowered. I spoke with Pete
Melvin who designed the Fossit 120 foot cat boat and he said that they did
not think that a rotating rig was necessary unless you did not have enough
power. Not a problem in 14s, but go ahead ant try if you want to. Also same
take on self tacking jibs. Go ahead and try.

2. Wider racks; good idea but at this time, perhaps an incremental change.
Maybe 7 foot wide? And see how it goes.

3. Racks aft of 14 feet. I am sort of against this, but I am in favor of
having the skipper being able to trap off the rudder gantry. The point of
this is that the weight is not necessarily out but it is further aft. This
would help the lighter skippers keep the bows out in the big waves. Out
further is not a requirement, further aft is.

4. Lighter boats. Good idea. Lets drop another 10-20 pounds, but lets also
look # 3 above.

All the Best,

PS. the US Nats are at the Gorge next month, Aug 18 - 22. Awesome venue. if
you have any spare vacation time and spare air miles, come on down! It's
great there.
