I always thought the sailors from the bay area were good sports. (all
the ones I know anyway)

After this week I think the East Coast of the US will see if they can
give California and in particular San Francisco back to the Mexicans.

For those who don't know, the French needed to beat both of the Bay Area
syndicates to advance to the Semi-Finals of the Americas Cup Challenger
series and keep the New York yacht club out.

In the first race against the St Francis boat, the American Team flew a
badly trimmed gennaker down the final run so the French using a
Symmetrical spinnaker passed them, and they then said with a straight
face they didn't throw it.

So now the French have to beat San Fransisco Yacht Club. Well, San
Francisco has already qualified for the Semis and to be fair they do
only have one boat and limited resources so they stated they wouldn't
turn up if the conditions looked "at all hazardous". When asked what
would constitute hazardous conditions they are rumoured to have said
"the sun coming up in the morning for instance"
