All the talk lately seems to be about going to the worlds, and that's
important. But I would like to remind everyone that life goes on in the
local fleets. Most of us are not going to the worlds, for what ever reasons
we may have. And since the leaders of the various fleets are packing there
boats for Australia, those of us who are staying home need to turn out in
full force to support the fleet and to keep things going. We are having
extremely skimpy turn outs at our regattas now and I suspect other fleets
are experiencing the same thing. Its very important that everyone who is
staying home get there boats out to the race course. You will find that
racing can be more fun when the hot shots are gone.
As for the guys that are going to Australia, your boats may be packed up but
you haven't left yet. So why not spend part of your time sailing with the
less experienced members of your fleets to see what you can teach them. The
extra camaraderie that can result from such a selfless act can be an
amassing and uplifting experience for the new members and less experienced
sailors in our fleets. This is really the most convenient time to do this,
and it will keep you wet so you wont dry out to much waiting for Australia.
