By starting at noon on the dot, and avoiding even any slight delay between
races, three points races were sailed today (Friday) to give a series of six
with one discard. The breeze for the first race of the day increased from 8 to 12
knots, and then fell away again, but was never below 6 knots at the masthead
of the committee boat. It was not the exciting stuff that gives 14 footer
sailors the adrenaline rush they enjoy so much, but it brought the week to a good
conclusion after the final day had started with only three points races having
been sailed.

Andy Fitzgerald and Simon Marks, who had been leading with two second places
and a first, rounded things off nicely with two first places and an eighth
today, which made them clear winners of the points trophy. Jarrod Simpson and
Harvey Hillary retained second place overall by turning in results of 1, 13 and 6
today, while Mike Lennon and John McKenna overtook James Fawcett and Dave
Dobrejivic with 11, 7 and 2 to pip them by just one point.

Charles Tauner and Edward Clay had an exceptionally good day, and their
places of 2, 3 and 7 brought them up from 16th to 6th overall.

Andy Partington, who won the Prince of Wales Cup yesterday with Ben Verniere,
again distingushed himself, but this time by doing a spectacular backward
somersault out of the boat at the first leeward mark when he forgot to hook on to
the trapeze wire. This pair then recovered well to finish fourth in the race,
and to move up to fifth overall.

A good championship week now draws to a conclusion, and things are over bar
the shouting that will surely occur at the dinner and prizegiving this evening.
