Given that response its kinda puzzling to me that you've chosen to sail a
restricted class rather than a one design. To me it seems that the
essential nature of a restricted class is that its a class where you can
and do spend time and/or money improving your boat. That's certainly why I
sail them. I don't want to buy Starboard products (or even Peter Moor or
Dave Alexander) or whoever's idea of what's a good boat and have to live
with that in every detail until the time comes to trade it in for another
that's exactly the same except that its in this years colours. (trust me,
this happens in the UK!)

Although I guess it can be demonstrated that hull obsolescence (ie boats we
have got) is faster in the Laser and the 49er, where top end people buy
boats at least every year than it is in the more open classes where it
takes around a year to fully work up a new boat anyway...
