The adoption of foiled rudders is not so revolutionary nor out dating for
existing boats. From what people - especially Mr Beiker write one thing is
clear a lot of people need to get on the water with a foiled rudder and sail
with them to see what the fuss is about.
On the subject of other classes I have sailed RS800 and 49ers extensively
and we must particularly in the UK have an eye to these classes. Find out
more on the RS at www.rs-association.com. The RS in some conditions is
quicker than a 14 due to being 16ft 9in long and the 49er is always quick.
These are the targets for the 14's to consider in future developments, we
simply must become quicker than these classes! The foiled rudder I believe
will certainly make a big difference upwind which is where the 14 looses due
to it's narrowness and short length!
