Ranelagh Trophy, Beer SC 22-23 June
Racing opened with a relatively light, but building south westerly breeze.
The breeze built throughout the day to provide some challenging waves to
amuse the fleet. Paul Vine and Dave Dubrojvic made a strong start to the
day only to find they were judged a premature starter giving the first
race to Victor Brellisford and Damian Ash. As the breeze freshened in Race
2 Andy Partington and Doug Walker lead at every mark to take first place.
Race 3 was won by Brellisford/Ash after some close racing with
Partington/Walker and Roddy Bridge/Douglas Pattison.
After a short postponement on Sunday morning a tough four race programme
kicked off. The breeze was a little lighter than Saturday and provided
ideal conditions for some excellent close racing. In Race 4 the
Vine/Dubrojvic team started the day well and showed the fleet a clean pair
of heels. Race 5 was won by Partington & Walker after they passed Vine &
Dubrojvic on the last run to the finish. Vine and Dubrojvic went on to
dominate the next two races with a first and a second place and they
emerged as event winners by one point from Partington/Walker with
Bridge/Pattison one point adrift in third place. Beers SC put on an
excellent event both on and off the water. As we have come to expect from
our friends in the west country, they always go that extra mile to make
the event special. Let's make sure more of us make the effort to find our
trailers and get down to Beer next year!
