Joel,
I sail an International Contender and Crew an International 14.
I wear a Wavelength nappy harness (UK company which sells Contender
sails and rigs) but have had to move up a size this year. I found it
more comfortable to have a slightly loose harness as that allowed me to
twist my body more to look around. With the tight fitting harness my
neck got quite sore when trying to keep looking around while trapezing
low so I wouldn't go for too tight a fit. I wear a cycling top over my
harness and buoyancy vest which is really good for covering up anything
which might snag. Cycling tops usually have useful pockets on the back
where you can get to them quite easily while you are trapezing. If you
get a couple the same it's also quite a cheap way to get matching gear
to match the trim of your boat if you are into that sort of thing.

Subject: [I14] harnesses

Hey, I'm trying to choose between a Spinnaker Shop
harness and a Magic Marine Skiff Harness. My crew and
I are both relatively big, so the main criterion is the
absence of straps, etc that could get caught up in the
rigging. Also I'm looking for a nappy, having had
abysmal luck with a crotchless one.

I don't want a custom harness, because I may not always
be sailing with the same crew (nor may my butt always be
the same size! I've lost 20 pounds this year!)

Any recommendations? I'm leaning towards Magic Marine
just because it's easier.

One other thing, do you wear your vest inside or outside
your harness? Inside seems like it would be less likely
to catch on things.

Joel
