A comment regarding close racing of I-14's.
I totally agree with Ted Rogers regarding the 14 fleet being very close
together these days. The last two 14 regattas, Nationals at ABYC and
Huntington Lake, proved to be very close racing. Granted there were only
four boats at Huntington but everyone of the four boats traded of being in
first place around the course during the weekend. In every race the four
boats would round each mark in different positions.
Granted you could not look into the eyes of your competition or reach out
and touch their boat during the race, but I'd rather not do that while
screaming along on an I-14. Besides, the crews in other boats looked
pretty bored downwind at Huntington, we definitely were not.
The final results at Huntington had the top three boats all within 1 point
of each other and all three could have easily won the regatta.
With a majority of B-II and B-III I-14's out there, the boats are all
racing much closer to each other than they ever have in the last 10 years.
