(My apologies if this gets off-topic) It has been very interesting to see
the civilised debate about foils/rudders etc in the I14s. I'm also an
outsider, with a keen interest in the class.

I'd like to point out that those comments about the Moth by "wildcard" are
incorrect. The Moth rigged with a windsurfer sail was not the champion but
finished well down the fleet. The foiled boat finished about tenth, and
noone has used foils in a major regatta since then. It may be worth
commenting that the last 3 Moth worlds have been won by the same design.

The Moth class doesn't prohibit buying sails from windsurfer shops, it
prohibits rigs that can be moved through more than one axis, and are not
sheeted to the hull (ie windsurfer style). That is the illegality.

I don't think it's very constructive or appropriate for non-I14 sailors to
make waves on this list so I'll go bak to "lurking" now. Just wanted to set
those points (on Moths) straight

<p>Bieker does charge a royalty for T foils of $100 of his design...if you
dont use his foils then they may not be as fast.....then you can spend a lot
trying different options.
The big issue is both cost and ease of handling. There will be plenty of
tail enders who will not be bothered using a T foil...so will be left
further behind.

We are trying to get new sailors in the class....I am sure T foils will not
help when they see there complexity ( and additional cost).

Who cares if we are not as fast as a 49er...we dont race against them
anyway.

The number one priority of the class should be to attract as many new
members as possible
