Dear 14 sailor,

As previously announced the UK trials will take place at Itchenor Sailing
Club on 22/23 September. The format for the trials will be random pairs team
racing; the top ten boats at the end of the weekend will form the UK squad,
a selection team will be appointed to select an A and B team from those
boats. More details below, thanks to Caroline Gosford for helping write this
up (but any errors are my fault!) Important points to highlight are that you
*must* pre-enter by Wednesday 19th September, and that you may only enter if
you intend to represent the UK in Bermuda, if selected.

Any queries, please email me on dave.spragg@gbr.i14.org, or call my mobile
07802 392486.

Apologies to anyone who receives two copies of this message; I'm sending it
to the UK owners list and the World mailing list, as I know there are are
sailors on one list but not on the other.

Cheers,
Dave

22-23 September 2001, Itchenor Sailing Club

IMPORTANT - If you enter this event you are deemed to be available, with the
same helm/crew combination, to sail the team Worlds in Bermuda, currently
scheduled for Mon 19th and Tue 20th November, with a possibility of Wed 21st
Novenber also required to complete the event. Failure to comply with this
condition will result in penalties: A barrel of beer to be provided free in
Bermuda by each defaulting boat. You have been warned!

Briefing time TBA mid next week
1st Start TBA mid next week
High tide Saturday - 15.45 hrs
The plan is to have 6 sets of races back-to-back on Saturday, 6 or less on
Sunday, time/weather permitting
Courses - short windward-leeward with start/gate in the middle, port hand
roundings
Racing will be in the harbour, conditions permitting, but the committee
reserve the right to hold racing outside the harbour.

Racing to be in random pairs format, which is as follows:-
You will be teamed up with another boat for one race, with an opposing team
selected similarly. In each subsequent set of races you will have a
different team-mate and opposition. The idea is to show your ability to team
race with different standards of team-mate, and against different
opposition. The winning team in each race will be the one which does not
have the last-placed boat, ie. last place loses, but there is no added
advantage in having first place.
Each boat will score one point per race in which it is in a winning team,
and boats will be ranked according to their overall number of points at the
end of the competition.
The Organisers reserve the right to reduce the numbers competing after 6
races if time/weather pressures require this to reach a meaningful
conclusion. The event may also be shortened if team selection has become
obvious. The organisers also reserve the right to amend the format described
above if necessary, all changes will be clearly communicated to competitors.

Selection to be as follows:-
If required, the boats with the best scores at the end of the racing are put
forward to a Selection Committee for seeding into A and B teams (5 boats per
team) and nomination of Team Captains. The decision of the Selection
Committee is final.
