Hi all,
Below is a copy of an email just sent to World Council members, which
should be self-explanatory.
Cheers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is to pass on for general information that the UK 14 Association
have
declared 2001 to be a trial year for experimentation on wider and/or
further aft racks. Detail of this will be published shortly by the UK
Committee to UK owners, but my understanding is as follows:
- the purpose of the trial is to gather data as to the effects on boat
peed, boat handling, etc, of different configurations, so as to aid
future decisions on any possible rule changes.
- there is at this stage no assumption that there will be any such
rule
change.
- the size of the experimental racks will be optional but, to ensure
that
data is gathered effectively, boats wishing to take part in the trial
will
be required to comply with procedures shortly to published by the UK
Committee to UK members.
- boats with racks not complying with current class rules, although
allowed to race with the fleet, will be ineligible for prizes (other
than
any special prizes which may be provided for boats taking part in the
trials)
The trial applies only for events within the UK. The Class
Constitution
requires that after one year, the UK either put a rule change to the
World
Association or terminate the trial. Practically, the class should
expect
the UK to be able to provide general feedback on the results when we
meet
in Bermuda.
I will copy this to the general 14 email list. Comments/queries to the
UK
Association rather than myself please!
Cheers
Colin
