What you will find is that a good 505 will regularly beat a not-very-
good 14. That's because the difference in performance between
top and bottom of just about any fleet is far greater than the
difference in performance between most classes. Check out this
article. which make the comparison between early 90s 14s and
Fireballs. Clearly the 14s have got very significantly faster since
then, but then the 505 is much faster than the fireball.

So if the sf 505 fleet has some World class guys at the top, then
you'd expect them to be able to beat a good number of average 14
sailors across the water... But if you have World class 14 sailors
at SF too - maybe they're just so far ahead the 505 sailors don't
see them!
