10 boats enjoyed the sunny conditions at Queen Mary
again this weekend. The air temperature was well
above freezing with a gusty and shifty breeze that
raised its game to little whitecaps for about an hour
to help us clear our hangovers.
In the first race Victor Brellisford and Damien Ashe
lead virtually from start to finish, followed by Dave
Spragg and Andy Loukes. The highlight of the race
involved Colin Smith and Pete Helm attempting to avoid
going through the gate downwind; in the process they
tried to mount a Yeoman (bad idea boys) and took out
Sibby and Jason who capsized in an avoiding manoeuvre,
making the gate a fairly untidy place for other boats
to navigate round.
In the second race, Julian Pearson and Karen Evans
started well and held a big lead. Despite being
chased down by Victor and Damien, then capsizing and
doing turns they took their first bullet in their new
boat, followed by Victor and Damien.
The boats remained on the water and the course was
relaid and shortened into Supercup format. In the
first race, Tom Low and Caroline Gosford started well
and held their lead from Victor and Damien to win. In
the other races, Victor and Damien won the starts and
resisted the challenge of the now tiring crews to win
both heats.
