Lets go back in time about 20 years.......
"The 14 fleet is worried about its performance profile - it seems that something
called the Fireball is giving it a good run for its money, its cheaper, more
easily handled etc. What is worse, there is this thing called a 505 which is
just about uncatchable. Basically the 14 is two feet shorter than either of
these so can't ever be expected to keep up. And that's it. Who wants to go
faster than a Fireball anyway, we have lots of fun burning off the Laser IIs!!!
Ha ha ha."
Come on guys - the 14 would be a dinosaur if it hadn't "radically" adopted the
twin trapeze and the gennaker. The 14 brought helming from the wire into the UK
mass market (at least). Now we've got boats IN PRODUCTION which wouldn't have
even been considered in a sane moment 20 years ago, to wit, the Musto Skiff and
RS 700 - both single handed trapeze boats with kites.
